Biography
Professor Givens teaches undergraduate courses on homeland security, digital forensics, and criminal justice technologies at Utica College. He has also taught graduate courses on critical infrastructure protection, cyber incident management, and network security. Givens has published three books on national security, the most recent of which is Homeland Security: An Introduction (Oxford University Press, 2021).
Prior to entering academia, he worked in various information technology-related roles for the Department of Homeland Security and in the private sector. He received a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the Department of Political Economy at King's College London.

Research
Givens is the author of Disaster Labs: How American States Use Partnerships to Manage the Unthinkable (Marine Corps University Press, 2020) and has served on the national staff of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary since 2018.
